Jesse Robredo Plane Crash in Masbate

DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo has been confirmed to be onboard a private plane that crashed off in Masbate past 4PM today, August 18, 2012.

According to the advisory released by Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda about the plane crash in Masbate, the plane was carrying Sec. Jesse Robredo and 3 others and it crashed off the coast of Masbate.

"At the present time, search and rescue operations are ongoing for the aircraft carrying Secretary of the Interior Jesse Robredo, an aide, and the pilot of the plane. The aircraft was off the coast of Masbate when contact was lost earlier today. We will be updating the public as details are confirmed: speculation is not useful at this point," the statement says.

Secretary Jesse Robredo (photo) and his companions were said to be onboard a Cessna 172 Piper Seneca plane which came from Cebu and was bound to Naga City, Robredo's hometown where he served as Mayor from 1988 to 1998 and then from 2001 to 2010, before being appointed as DILG Secretary.

Robredo's aide has been rescued from the plane crash in Masbate, but Secretary Jesse Robredo and the pilots are still missing.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, so let's all pray for a successful rescue operation and that Secretary Jesse Robredo and his companions will be safe.

A vigil is already being done at Robredo residence in Brgy. Dayangdang, Naga City.
