Another "3rd" for the Philippines! Koreen Medina, Miss Philippines, has placed 3rd Runner Up in the Miss Intercontinental 2013 pageant, which has just concluded in Germany Saturday night, December 14 (early morning Manila time).
Koreen competed against 58 other candidates, and finished in 4th Place or 3rd Runner Up, just behind the candidates from Colombia (2nd Runner Up), Puerto Rico (1st Runner Up) and the winner, Miss Russia Ekaterina Plekhova. 4th Runner Up was the candidate from South Africa. It was only the first time that Russia won the Miss Intercontinental pageant.
As for the Philippines, it was its 2nd best placement in Miss Intercontinental, considered as one of the 6 major pageants in the world. Philippines' best placement is still Maria Sovietskaya Bacud's 2nd Runner Up finish during the country's first try in 1993.
4 other candidates from the Philippines placed in the semis: Faith Amigo (Top 10, 1995), Jamie Burgos (Top 12, 2004), Kirby Ann Basken (Top 12, 2006) and Christi Lynn "Ashley" McGarry (Top 15, 2010).
And this 3rd Runner Up finish by Koreen Medina is the third 3rd Runner Up for the Philippines this 2013 alone. (Sounds redundant?)
Ariella Arida also got same placement in Miss Universe 2013, as well as Ali Forbes in Miss Grand International 2013, both held last month.
And of course, that adds to so many accomplishments the Philippines had in the pageant world this year, including Miss World 2013 win by Megan Young and Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Datul. I've lost count already.
Venezuela may have been so lucky after winning 3 major titles during the last 35 days (Miss Universe, Mister International, Miss Earth), but in Miss Intercontinental 2013, the Venezuelan candidate however failed to enter the Top 15 semis. Last year's Miss Intercontinental winner came from Venezuela.
Next important pageant to watch out for: Miss International 2013 pageant in Japan this Tuesday, Dec. 17. Bea Rose Santiago is among the big favorites, and has a strong chance of winning 5th Miss International title for the Philippines.
