US BOX OFFICE June 01-03 (Estimates)
1. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," $43.2 million.
2. "Knocked Up," $29.3 million.
3. "Shrek the Third," $26.7 million.
4. "Mr. Brooks," $10 million.
5. "Spider-Man 3," $7.5 million.
6. "Waitress," $2 million.
7. "Gracie," $1.4 million.
8. "Bug," $1.22 million.
9. "28 Weeks Later," $1.2 million.
10. "Disturbia," $1.1 million.
The R-18 comedy Knocked Up debuted only at #2 with $29.3 opening weekend sales, but already considered as a very strong performance. It has to compete with three giant movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (#1), Shrek the Third (#3), and Spider-Man 3 (#5), thus it's amazing that Knocked Up has accumulated such huge revenues.
Disturbia landed at #10 on its 10th weekend, the longest to stay in the US Box Office for now.
Next week, expect the following movies in the Top 10 US Box Office: Hostel II, Ocean's Thirteen and Surf's Up.
Here's a glimpse of all-time worldwide grosses, as of June 03, 2007:
#3 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest BV $1,066.2
#7 Shrek 2 DW $920.7
#14 Spider-Man 3 Sony $844.0
#15 Spider-Man Sony $821.7
#20 Spider-Man 2 Sony $783.8
#27 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl BV $654.3
#52 Shrek DW $484.4
#60 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End BV $467.6
As you can see, Spider-Man 3, which is being shown for one month already, has finally surpassed previous Spidey movies, while Pirates 3 has still a long way to go before it can surpass Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Shrek the Third is nowhere to be found in the Top 100 all-time box-office as of this time.
