Marie-Ann, 22-years-old from Batangas and stands 5'8", will then be the Philippines' official representative in the 59th Miss World pageant to be held this December 2009 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In Binibining Pilipinas 2006, Umali was only a Top 10 Semi-Finalist while in the 2009 pageant, she received two major awards (Miss Photogenic and Best in Long Gown) and finished the pageant with a Binibining Pilipinas World crown on her head.
Marie-Ann is a Tourism graduate at the College of Saint Benilde.

Question: What's your idea of fun?
Answer: Well...my idea of fun is...when you're being...where you..when you're leading a positive outlook in life and...you're happy for what you are and confident on who you are and what you are...then...then therefore...it is my idea of fun...with by being yourself.

During the 2006 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, Marie-Ann Umali had a controversial answer to the question: In your own words,how would you define true love?
The question was asked then by Iza Calzado (She's the host in the 2009 pageant).
Umali responded: "In my own words, love cannot be defined because love should be 'fit'. (She said 'fit' instead of 'felt'.)

But despite all of this, Umali has a great chance of giving the Philippines its first Miss World crown.
