Manny Pacquiao among 2009 ESPYS nominees
Advertisements
The Philippines' Manny Pacquiao is nominated in two categories of the 2009 ESPYS or Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards sponsored by ESPN, a cable network in the US.
Pacquiao's dramatic knockout win over British Ricky Hatton last May has earned a nomination in the "Best Play" category.
The Pacquiao vs Hatton bout is the only boxing event to be nominated in the said category.
Even Pacquiao failed to get a nod as "Best Male International Athlete", he is fittingly nominated though in the "Best Fighter" category.
He is one of the two boxers to be nominated as Best Fighter this year.
The other boxer nominee for Best Fighter is Shane Mosley from the US while the other two are Mixed Martial Arts fighters Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva.
Good thing about the ESPYS is the votation ongoing for the 37 categories at the official web site and it could spell another knockout victory for Pacquiao.
Even if Pacquiao doesn't win, it's already such a great feat for a Filipino to be shortlisted as one of the nominees in the prestigious ESPYS.
Voting ends on July 11 and results will be announced during the awarding ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on July 15.
The awarding will be hosted by Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson, to be televised this July 19 on ESPN.
