Tonight, August 16, 2009 at 8:00 PM in Bahamas' Imperial Ballroom, the 84 candidates for Miss Universe 2009 will participate in the Presentation Show, where they will all compete in their sexy swimsuits and glamourous evening gowns.
The Presentation Show, also called as the Preliminary Competition, is an important event in the pageant as it will form part of the scores of the candidates to determine who among them will be part of the Top 15 semi-finalists.
That means, the "real" competition for Miss Universe 2009 begins on the Presentation Show and will greatly affect everyone's list of favorites for the title.
The semi-finalists, determined from the said Prelims and the scheduled interview on August 17-18, will be announced during the Miss Universe 2009 Finals still at Bahamas' Imperial Ballroom on the 23rd of August to be telecast live on NBC and Telemundo starting at 9:00 PM.
The Preliminary Show will be hosted by Dayana Mendoza, the outgoing Miss Universe, and Ed Fields, a Bahamian host of Morning Show Cool 96 and SVP of Retail Services and Public Affairs for Kerzner International in the Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Fields is already a familiar name as he already hosted the Miss Teen USA 2009 last July.
London's Son of Soul Anthoney Wright will be performing for the event.
The panel of judges for the Preliminary Competition includes:
1. "American Idol" Talent Producer Steven Schillaci
2. Best Buddies International's VP for Talent Relations and "The Biggest Loser" finalist Mark Wylie
3. "Last Call with Carson Daly" Executive Producer David Friedman
4. Trump Model Management President Corinne Nicolas
5. Choreographer and Artistic Director Mario Mosley
6. Michaek Kors (USA), Inc. Director of Retail Operations Tiza Tjokroadisumarto
The Preliminary Competition is actually not a free show. Ticket prices are as follows: Gold: $175, Preferred: $125, Deluxe: $100 and General: $50.
But, it can be watched for free via a live streaming at www.nbc.com and www.missuniverse.com.
