In the recently concluded Awards Night of MMFF 2009, Sharon Cuneta was Best Actress for Mano Po 6 while ex-husband Gabby Concepcion lost to Sen. Bong Revilla for "Ang Panday".
It's the first time that the Megastar has won as Best Actress in a Metro Manila Film Festival. In 2003, she won a special awards as Best Actress for "Crying Ladies" in MMFF, but it was voted by the public.
Sen. Bong's victory was somehow expected, as well as that of his co-star Phillip Salvador who won as Best Supporting Actor. It's Phillip's 2nd consecutive year to win the same award. Last year, he won for the movie "Baler". While it was a first for Sen. Bong, who has been in the biz for 26 years.
MMFF actually has a history of giving "first" for many actors and actresses. In 2007, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada also won his first Best Actor award for the movie "Katas ng Saudi".
After the awards night, Sen. Bong said he owed his victory to the multi-awarded Phillip Salvador because the latter coached him how to portray his role in the movie.
Heart Evangelista, who played Sharon Cuneta's daughter in "Mano Po 6", was the Best Supporting Actress.
Just like Phillip, "Ang Panday" child star Robert "Buboy" Villar also won his 2nd consecutive Best Child Performer award from the MMFF. Last year, Buboy won for "Shake, Rattle & Roll X".
Congrats to all the acting awardees of this year's MMFF.
