100 Greatest Characters for the Last 20 Years: Edward Cullen, Harry Potter, Jack Sparrow and more
anniversary and they have a special issue out Friday, May 28.
The latest issue contains EW's list of 100 Greatest Characters, both
on TV and in movies, during the last 20 years and on top of it is
Homer Simpson (voiced by Dan Castellaneta in "The Simpsons").
Harry Potter played by Daniel Radcliffe is #2, followed by Buffy
Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer") in 3rd,
Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini, The Sopranos) in #4 and The Dark
Knight's The Joker portrayed by the late Heath Ledger.
I'm so glad that Robert Pattinson's role as Edward Cullen in
"Twilight" is among them. Though very far at #53, it's good though
considering it was introduced barely 2 years ago.
Johnny Depp has two characters in the Top 100: Edward Scissorheads at
#7 and Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean) in 13th.
Asians definitely would be very happy to know that an Asian character
is part of the list. At #83 is Zhang Ziyi's character Jen Yu in
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
And here are the others (I'll just cite some of them):
6. Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston, Friends)
8. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins, The Silence of the Lambs)
9. Caroline "Carrie" Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker, Sex and the City)
10. Spongebob Squarepants
15. Shrek (Mike Myers)
16. Bridget Jones (Reneé Zellweger)
17. Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie)
25. Woody (Tom Hanks, Toy Story)
36. Gollum of the Lord of the Rings
38. Elmo of the Sesame Street
42. Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner, Alias)
44. Jack Bauer (Keith Sutherland, 24)
46. Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise)
49. Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman)
63. Maximus (Russell Crowe, Gladiator)
66. Allie & Noah (Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling, The Notebook)
68. Effie White (Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls)
69. Miranda Priestly (Meryll Streep, The Devil Wears Prada)
87. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr, Iron Man)
Some of my fave characters aren't included like Peter Parker, Nemo and
who would forget Rose & Jack.
