Thailand's "Lung Boonmee Raluek Chat" wins Palme d'Or at 2010 Festival de Cannes
Boomee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" won the highest prize Palme d'Or
in the Festival de Cannes 2010 awarded Sunday, May 23, in France.
It's directed by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul and features
Thai actors, but is actually a co-production of Thailand with UK,
France, Germany and Spain.
It took 13 years for Asia to win the Golden Palm award of Cannes. The
last time was in 1997 when Japan and Iran tied for the award.
Other Asian winners this 2010 are Korea's "Poetry" as Best Screenplay
and "Ha Ha Ha" as Un Certain Regard Grand Prize winner.
Hollywood stars Javier Bardem and Juliette Binoche won the acting
honors. Both were already Oscar winners. Barden was 2007 Oscar Best
Supporting Actor for the movie "No Country for Old Men" while Binoche
won Oscar Best Supporting Actress for "The English Patient" in 1996.
The Best Director trophy this year went to Mathieu Amalric of France.
Last year, Philippines' Brillante Mendoza won the award.
