Box Office Mojo has just posted this morning the Philippine box-office report last weekend and on top of the chart was GMA/Regal Films' 'My Valentine Girls', starring the Valentine Box Office King Richard Gutierrez.
But the figure posted for 'My Valentine Girls' isn't an indication that the movie is a box-office hit, at least on its first weekend.
According to the report, "My Valentine Girls" was screened last week in 80 theaters and collected only P17.52 million on its first 5 days.
Previous week's #1 "Bulong" under Star Cinema came in 2nd with P13.86 million from February 9 to 13, and was screened in 90 theaters.
"Bulong" now has a total gross of P52.46 million since it opened in theaters last February 2.
Here's the Philippine box-office results for the period February 9-13, 2011:
1. My Valentine Girls P17.52 million
2. Bulong P13.86 million
3. Tangled P10.82 million
4. The Mechanic P8.41 million
5. 127 Hours P7.37 million
6. Sanctum (3D) P5.39 million
7. The Rite P3.28 million
8. Love and Other Drugs P1.60 million
9. Season of the Witch P1.12 million
10. Burlesque P1.00 million
P13 MILLION ON VALENTINE'S DAY
While the movie didn't perform well during its opening weekend (Feb. 9-13), the movie reportedly grossed P13 million last Monday alone, Valentine's Day. Lendl Fabella, publicist of Regal Entertainment Inc, posted yesterday on his Twitter account (@iamlefabuleux) that the movie has already reached P50 million as of Feb. 14.
PEP MAKES A CLARIFICATION
Also yesterday, PEP's scoopbox has made a clarification of what they previously reported two days ago that the movie reportedly earned P135 million in just 3 days. PEP posted: "PEP CLARIFICATION: A feed was sent to PEP last Sunday, February 13, indicating 135 million pesos as the gross ticket sales of "My Valentine Girls" three days after its opening. The PEP Editors questioned this figure. An independent research using sources from the producers' camp put the figures at 50 million pesos as of February 14."
Mykiru also blogged about it prior to that clarification stating that the true box-office figure for the movie is 5 times lower than what has been reported. (Read: My Valentine Girls' reported gross of P135 million is NOT TRUE | True figure is 5 times lower!)
Tonight will be the victory party for the whole cast and crew of "My Valentine Girls" to celebrate the success of the film.
