Armando Goyena, a matinee idol in the 50's, dies

Armando Goyena, a popular leading man in Philippine movies during the 50's, died of pulmonary embolism on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, according to a report from Philippine Daily Inquirer.

He was 88.(December 7, 1922 - March 9, 2011).



Born Jose Goyena Revilla Jr., Armando Goyena was married to Francisca "Paquita" Roses, the first ever Camay soap model. (Paquita, who was considered by many as among the most beautiful women ever in Philippine showbiz, died reportedly of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also in the month of March, exactly 10 years ago.)

He fathered seven daughters (two of them entered showbiz: Maritess and Tina Revilla) and one son, Johnny Revilla (he currently stars in ABS-CBN's "Imortal" as Simon Teodoro, Mateo's adoptive father).

Armando Goyena was also the grandfather of actors Bernard and Mico Palanca as well as of models Bianca and Paolo Araneta (ex-bf of Anne Curtis).

His most recent films were "Annie B" in 2004, the 2003 Metro Manila Filmfest entry "Captain Barbell" and another MMFF entry "Yamashita: The Tiger's Treasure" in 2001 where he won as Best Actor during the 50th FAMAS Awards.
