Singer/actress/TV host Karylle has moved forward, hitting the ground running with her latest album Roadtrip. Venturing out of her comfort zone and producing the album by herself, it boasts of 11 original compositions narrating her personal journey through the past year presented in an edgier, more playful, and exciting light.
"A Time For Letting Go (her previous album, which received Gold Record Award) may have been a personal album for me, but Roadtrip, in so many levels, exposes who I really am and where I am right now," says Karylle. "I am proud of this album because I can truly say that this is ME – the artist, singer, songwriter. I am this album. I hope everyone will like it."
From letting go to moving forward, Roadtrip highlights Karylle's versatility as an artist with a pleasant mix of club ditties, alterna-pop, and the familiar ballads. Running and Desert Drama, along with the album's infectious carrier single OMG, provide the upbeat grooves which set the backdrop for the new, guitar-driven, club-influnced Karylle sound. Power alterna-pop tracks I Found My Smile Again, Good To Me and Subic take audiences further to Karylle's musical journey, while Everything About You, Basically and title-track Roadtrip slow things down and wind up the album.
Aside from her original compositions, Roadtrip also boasts of Karylle's recording of an unforgettable ballad Safest Place, a composition by international songwriter Andrew Fromm.
As evidenced by its title, Roadtrip also highlights her fondness of traveling.
“I have been around the Philippines, and the world the past years, so I realized that going to new places inspires me to write songs,” shares Karylle. “This is also my way of contributing to the challenge of OPM to come up with more original songs.”
Karylle also adds that Roadtrip is a celebration of friendship because, “since I was the one who produced it, a lot of my friends have selflessly offered their amazing talents, time to help me make this endeavor a big success.”
Aside from friends helping her out with logistics, ZsaZsa Padilla joins Karylle as a backup singer in power pop song Kulang, while kababata Robin Nievera plays guitar for My Hero, My Angel. US-based DJ Riddler also does the remix of OMG and Tribo Manila remixes Desert Drama to cap off this highly eclectic album.
Roadtrip is now available at all record bars nationwide.
