Alaska Earthquake 2011: 5.2 earthquake rocks Alaska

A moderate earthquake jolted Anchorage, the largest city in the largest US State of Alaska on Thursday, June 16, 2011.

It was a moderate Alaska earthquake which was widely felt not only in Anchorage but also in other areas in Alaska most especially in Kenai, Sterling, and Soldotna.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center measured the Earthquake at 5.2 magnitude, happening 11:06 AM at the epicenter Kenai Peninsula.

There was no tsunami threat and no damages or injuries were reported, but the 10-second earthquake brought fears to the people there especially those who experienced the Great Alaskan earthquake in 1964.

The 1964 Alaska Earthquake had a 9.2 magnitude, which was not the deadliest but it was the the 2nd largest eartquake in history, next to the Chilean earthquake in 1960 with 9.5 magnitude.
