Indie films were big winners in the 9th Golden Screen Awards (2012) by the Entertainment Press, Inc. or Enpress held tonight, March 24, 2012, at the Teatrino Greenhills in San Juan City.
The indie film 'Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank', which was the Philippines' entry to the Oscars 2012, won the most awards, including Best Comedy Picture, Best Director for Marlon Rivera and Best Actress - Musical or Comedy for Eugene Domingo, who recently won the People's Choice Award for the same movie at the 2012 Asian Film Awards.
Best Picture - Drama winner was another indie film 'Niño', which also won honors for 2 of its actors.
Among the winners in the acting category was Aga Muhlach as Best Actor - Drama for the mainstream film 'In the Name of Love'. Aga was actually the only one from a mainstream movie to win in any of the 8 acting categories.
Over-all, only 4 categories had mainstream movies as the winners, and the rest are all indies.
The film 'Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig' had the most nominations, a total of 13, but unfortunately it won nothing.
