The 2013 Golden Globe Awards (or Globos de Oro 2013 for the Spanish-speaking people) were handed out Sunday, January 13, 2013 with "Argo" winning Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director.
"Argo" winning Best Picture and Ben Affleck as Best Director is considered a surprising win by some, mainly because Ben Affleck got snubbed as a Best Director nominee at the 2013 Oscar Awards announced 3 days ago.
For me, it's not a surprise, because "Argo" is an excellent movie and
deserves those awards, and this goes to show that the Oscars made a mistake of not including Ben Affleck among Best Director nominees.
Even if "Argo" is Golden Globes 2013 Best Picture, many are already predicting that "Argo" won't win as Oscars 2013 Best Picture (for the
same reason stated above). [During the last 10 years actually, same Best Picture winner at Golden Globes and Oscars happened only 3 times.]
Fantastic, well-loved women were also named winners at last night's Golden Globe Awards 2013 and these are: Jennifer Lawrence as Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy (who said "What does it say, 'I beat Meryl Streep'" in her acceptance speech), Anne Hathaway as Best Supporting Actress and Adele for her "Skyfall" song.
Adele is actually the one making more headlines than the other winners. She's got huge followings worldwide and her "Best Original Song" win is expected, but highly celebrated. It was also her first public appearance after giving birth to her baby boy last October.
For that category, Adele was able to beat Taylor Swift, who was also nominated for the song "Safe & Song" from the movie "The Hunger Games".
Adele was very ecstatic of her Golden Globe award, but probably not co-nominee Taylor Swift. Look at their reactions! (Screen shot courtesy of @horanyforlarry)
Controversy aside, Taylor Swift shouldn't be upset, 'coz she still has a big chance of winning for the song at the 2013 Grammy Awards this February, where it's nominated in 2 categories. As for Adele, she's also predicted to take home the Oscars statuette at the 2013 Academy Awards next month also for the Skyfall song.
Adele's Twitter reaction after the announcement of Oscars noms last Friday was this:
"Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!! Thank you x"
But for her recent win, it seems like Adele is a lot happier to see Daniel Day-Lewis than winning a Golden Globe award.
"I just met Daniel f-cking Day Lewis!!!," she tweeted.
Daniel Day-Lewis won as Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama for the movie "Lincoln".
