'Bromance', starring Zanjoe Marudo (in dual role) with Cristine Reyes as his leading lady, scored big box office numbers on its first 5 days, May 15-19, 2013.
The comedy movie 'Bromance: My Brother's Romance', which launches Zanjoe Marudo and is directed by Wenn Deramas, director of numerous hits such as "Sisterakas", "Praybeyt Benjamin" etc., opened in Philippine theaters May 15 and had to compete against the opening of the romance-drama "The Great Gasby", starring Leonardo DiCaprio, on the same day as well as the sci-fi action movie "Star Trek Into Darkness" which opened 2 days later.
And the results? "Bromance" landed in 2nd spot of the Philippine Box Office with P32.33-million 5-day opening gross, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. It's only P1.4M shy of Star Trek's 3-day opening gross of P33.69-million to take the #1 spot.
Bromance's opening gross is already big for a Star Cinema and Skylight Films team up, quite fine for an actor's launching movie, but a bit of a disappointment for a Wenn Deramas-directed film. But at least, it's performing higher than "Moron 5 and the Crying Lady" also directed by Deramas in 2012 which had P44.55M after 9 days and P64.64M after a 16-day run in theaters. It will also soon outgross "Who's That Girl?", another Deramas film in 2011, which earned a 5-week total of P58.31M.
In 3rd was "Iron Man 3" on its 4th week with P18.62M, now with a gross total of P604.44-M. It's already the highest grossing movie ever in the Philippines, beating last year's "The Avengers", which had a total earnings of P601.11M in 10 weeks.
DiCaprio's movie meanwhile underwhelms with only P7.19-M, good for No. 4.
As for other Pinoy films, two movies have already ended their run a week before.
Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz movie "It Takes A Man and A Woman" fell short of its P400-M target and finished with P375.02M, still a massive number and already enough to make the film as the highest-grossing Pinoy film of all time, according to official figures from Box Office Mojo, and from the MMDA for MMFF entries. (Sisterakas' reported P391.4M final gross did not come from MMDA. It came from its star Kris Aquino and producer Star Cinema.)
Regal's "The Bride and the Lover" on one hand, which starred Lovi Poe, Paulo Avelino and Jennylyn Mercado, wrapped up with P10.4-million after a 2-week run. - Mykiru.ph
