MMFF 2013 official entries have been announced today and I'm sure some of you would be happy to know that no more "Enteng Kabisote", "Agimat", "Panday", "Tanging Ina", "SRR" on this year's MMFF.
The 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2013) will have once again 8 official entries, which star the likes of Richard Yap, Jodi Sta. Maria, Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Toni Gonzaga, Robin Padilla, Piolo Pascual, Eugene Domingo, Maricel Soriano, Vice Ganda and of course the reigning MMFF Kings Vic Sotto and Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., and MMFF Queen Kris Aquino.
It's now the 12th consecutive year that a movie a starring Vic Sotto will be part of MMFF, while it's the 5th consecutive time for Sen. Bong and the 4th consecutive for Kris Aquino.
For the first time after 8 years, there will be no Shake, Rattle & Roll (SRR) film on this year's MMFF. Regal Films' entry instead this 2013 is another horror film "Pagpag", which stars KathNiel and a co-production with Star Cinema and Skylight Films.
Surprisingly, the movie of Laguna Gov. Jeorge Estregan Jr aka ER Ejercito entitled "Boy Golden" which was submitted for consideration is not among the 8 official entries. And worse, it wasn't even shortlisted as ranked 9th or 10th.
This could be the reason why. For the past 2 MMFFs, Gov. ER was part of the festival via "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story" in 2011 and "El Presidente" in 2012. And in those 2 years, the Governor was always "disappointed" over the MMFF Awards (losing back-to-back the Best Actor award to Dingdong Dantes, and his movie "El Presidente" not winning Best Picture and the FPJ Memorial Award).
Looks like this year's MMFF, which will run from December 25, 2013 to January 7, 2014, won't be having a hard time beating last year's MMFF record of P747-million total grosses, that despite having no more tried-and-tested sequels or movie series. I just wish no more "basura" films this time.
