August 9, 2013 is a regular holiday in the Philippines! That's according to the Proclamation No. 629 signed by President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy) and issued by the Malacañan Palace today, August 1.
The holiday declaration was made due to August 9 being an important day for the Muslim community: the Eid'l Fitr.
The day which falls on a Friday marks the culmination of the Holy Month of Ramadan for the Muslims around the world.
According to the Proclamation No. 629 issued by the Malacañan Palace, August 9 will be a regular holiday in order for the whole Filipinos to have the opportunity to join our Muslim brothers and sisters in their observance of Eid’l Fitr.

After August 9, there are two more holidays this month: the Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, Wednesday (a special non-working holiday) and the National Heroes Day on August 26, Monday (a regular holiday).

Other than being a holiday, August 9 is the date for some important events in the entertainment scene: finale of TV5's mini-series "Misibis Bay", Mark Bautista's 10th Anniversary concert at the Music Museum and Patti Austin with Joe Pizzulo Live in Manila concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

PROCLAMATION NO. 629
DECLARING FRIDAY, 9 AUGUST 2013, AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN OBSERVANCE OF EID’L FITR (FEAST OF RAMADHAN)
WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country;
WHEREAS, Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three (3) days after the end of the month of fasting;
WHEREAS, to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr; and
WHEREAS, in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Friday, 9 August 2013, as a regular holiday throughout the country.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 9 August 2013, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan). The Eid’l Fitr Prayer shall be performed depending on the result of the moon-sighting activity on 7 August 2013.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
