Miss Philippines Megan Young has made it to the Miss World 2013 Beach Fashion Finals!
The 125 Miss World 2013 candidates competed in sarongs for the Beach Fashion event of the pageant yesterday, September 9. Previously called Beach Beauty event, the sarongs, instead of bikinis, played a big part in the Beach Fashion competition to show respect to the culture of Indonesia, which is a predominantly Muslim nation.
33 were called as semi-finalists among the 125 contestants, and they were later cut into just 11 finalists (they're supposed to be just 10, but there was a tie in 10th Place and the judges didn't break the tie). As announced by the Miss World Organization, the Top 11 finalists for Miss World 2013 Beach Fashion are:
Megan and the 10 other finalists of Miss World 2013 Beach Fashion competition will take part in a special photoshoot, according to the Miss World Organization, and the winner will be announced during the Miss World 2013 finals on September 28th at the new venue, Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, and no longer at the previously announced Sentul International Conventional Center in Jakarta.
I predict that the Miss World 2013 winner will come from these ladies. Big favorites such as the Philippines, Brazil, Spain and Ukraine are all there, as well as other faves like China, France, Ghana and Italy. Except in 2004, winners of Miss World all made it as a finalist for the Beach Beauty or Beach Fashion since it started in 2003.
Meanwhile, the Sports Challenge has already started yesterday morning, September 9, ahead of the Beach Fashion event. Divided into 4 groups, 116 of the 125 candidates took part in the event, and Top 16 semi-finalists were chosen (4 from each group). Sadly, our dearest Megan Young isn't one of them. (It's okay. No Sports Challenge winner went on to become Miss World titleholder. There were only 2 Miss World winners, in 2004 & 2009, who landed as a finalist or semi-finalist in the Sports Challenge.)
