Miss Philippines Angelee delos Reyes and Miss Thailand Punika Kulsoontornru topped among the 89 Miss Earth 2013 candidates based on the pageant's 9 preliminary challenges.
Since the pageant started mid-November up to this week leading to the finale tonight, the contestants took part in various challenges or events giving them points if they won either a gold medal which merited 10 points, a silver equivalent to 8 points or a bronze finish good for 6 points. Those who made it at as a finalist but failed to earn a medal in a particular challenge were given 4 points.
These challenges or events include the National Costume, Evening Gown, Resorts Wear, Talent and Swimsuit competitions, the Miss Photogenic and Eco-Beauty Video online votings as well as the activities which determined the Best Teacher and Most Child-Friendly candidates.
The points have been tallied (excluding the results for "Miss Frienship" which are yet to be revealed) and on top of them all are Miss Philippines Angelee delos Reyes and Miss Thailand Punika Kulsoontornrut both collecting 50 points.
Miss Philippines earned those points after winning 2 silver medals and 3 bronze, while Miss Thailand also got 50 points, thanks to her 2 gold and 1 bronze medals.
Three candidates got 48 points each: Miss Photogenic and Eco-Beauty Video winner Miss India Sobhita Dhulipala, Miss South Africa Ashanti Mbanga and Evening Gown winner Miss Venezuela Alyz Henrich.
Next up are Misses Nepal (Rojisha Shahi Thakuri), Northern Ireland (Amira Graham) and Russia who each garnered 46 points, while the candidates from Ukraine (Anatasia Sukh) who won the Swimsuit Round and Indonesia (Nita Sofiani) both with 44 points.
Rounding up the Top 16 are Miss Austria Katia Wagner with 42 points, Miss Kazakhstan also with 42 points and the candidates each with 40 points - Colombia, Nigeria, Guatemala and Brazil (Priscilla
Martins).
Also getting valuable points, 38 each, ranking next to the Top 16 are Misses Bahamas, Bolivia, France, Norway, Turkey, USA and Zambia.
It's most likely that the winner or probably most of the semi-finalists during the finals night might come from these ladies. Points from the very important Preliminary Interview however aren't
included yet there and it might give us big surprises in the finals.
Tonight, December 7, is the much-awaited finale or grand coronation night of Miss Earth 2013. Hosts will be British but Singapore-based TV host Oli Pettigrew and his wife, American but also Singapore-based model-host Linda Black, with American singer-composer David Pomeranz as the performer.
StarWorld will telecast the Miss Earth 2013 pageant finale live at 8PM, while Rappler.com will be live streaming the event straight from the venue, Versailles Palace in Alabang.
