FIBA Basketball World Cup 2014 Finals: USA vs Serbia for the Championship

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2014 is about to close, and the championship final match is already set for tomorrow. USA vs Serbia: Which team will be the 2014 FIBA World Cup champion?
Contrary to predictions, the championship finals in the 2014 FIBA World Cup is not USA vs Spain (the host team), but it's USA vs Serbia.
Spain was shockingly eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing to France, who was later defeated by Serbia, 85-90, in the semifinals held just last night (early morning PH time).
It was a rematch, since the two teams already faced in the group phase, which had France winning just by 1 point, 73-74.
The French team failed to maintain its momentum after pulling an upset win against Spain, which turned them into a huge favorite to enter the finals with the USA. It would have been their first time ever to play for the championship. Sadly, it isn't happening, but still, theirs is the biggest story in this year's FIBA World Cup.
France, ranked 8th in world ranking, will now just have to battle for 3rd Place against the 4th-ranked Lithuania today, September 13.
If France wins, it will be their highest placement ever in FIBA Basketball World Cup. If not, it will just match their 4th Place
finish during the 1954 World Cup.
Lithuania on one hand is on their 2nd straight 3rd Place playoff. They won the last time they played for this placement (2010 FIBA World Cup)
against Serbia. But I think this 2014, it's France who's going to take
3rd Place.
Meanwhile, 11th ranked Serbia is playing in the championship round for the first time since it became an independent state in 2006. Previously, it's part of Yugoslavia, the winningest team with 5 wins out of 8 final appearances.
Will Serbia beat the defending champion USA, the only undefeated team of the 2014 FIBA World Cup?
The top-ranked team USA is too strong, so this early, they're already being regarded as champions. Serbia needs luck to be on their side to be able to win against the 4-time champions who are making their 8th
final appearance.
Whether Yugoslavia or Serbia, the USA vs Serbia championship final match is a first in the history of FIBA Basketball World Cup.
It's scheduled this Sunday evening, Sep. 14, at the Palacio de los Deportes de Madrid in Madrid, Spain (early Monday morning, Sep. 15, PH
time). - Mykiru.ph
