"Queenie (International Name: "Sinlaku") arrived in the Philippines on the same day as 'Past Tense' opening in theaters. Produced by Star Cinema, 'Past Tense' stars Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Daniel Matsunaga and is directed by Mae Cruz.
Early morning on Wednesday, November 26, PAGASA said that the Low Pressure Area (LPA) they've been tracking in previous days has already developed into a tropical depression and they named it as "QUEENIE".
Public Storm warning signals were raised in some areas from the Visayas and Mindanao.
Later that day, the movie "Past Tense" opened in theaters nationwide. Supposedly in over 150 cinemas all over the country, the movie however was shown in just over 50 theaters.
We were already there at SM City Naga early in the afternoon, and we were so disappointed that there was no "Past Tense" in any of the cinemas. 3 cinemas were alloted for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' and 1 for 'Penguins of Madagascar'.
According to the lady selling tickets at the cinema, there was a technical problem on the part of Star Cinema.
True indeed, as Star Cinema released an official statement later that day apologizing for what happened. They admitted there were indeed some technical problems, but they also cited "bad weather" as another
reason for the delay of their movie's showing in Visayas and Mindanao (when in fact, some cinemas in Luzon also experienced the delay, such as in Baguio, Bicol etc).
Yeah, we do understand them, but I hope there was no negligence on their part (some fans believe there was a sabotage). They should have made it sure that all was set already even before the movie opens in
cinemas. They should have planned ahead.
There were a number of Hollywood films which also opened on the same day ("Penguins of Madagascar", "Horrible Bosses 2", "Jessabelle"), but they didn't encounter any problem, and were shown as scheduled.
We just wanted to watch on opening day, so that ours will be counted for the movie's 1st day gross, which is very important to set the trend, to influence others to also watch the movie and also to
determine if the movie has a long-term potential in cinemas.
On the movie's 2nd day, no more problems were encountered and it has been doing well so far in the box-office (hoping that the weekend grosses will make up for the lost sales last Wednesday).
As for Queenie, PAGASA has already upgraded it as a tropical storm, as of 10AM today, but is already being expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between 9 to 10 tonight. Sadly, there's another Low Pressure Area (LPA) that might threaten the country. It was estimated this morning at 770 kms East of Davao City and if it developed into a tropical depression, it will be named "RUBY". - Mykiru.ph
