Only in the Philippines! Convicted robbery gang leader Herbert Colanggo was allowed to have his own music studio while inside New Bilibid Prison and able to realize his dream of becoming a recording artist.
As what Anne Curtis' always says, "dreams do come true"...even for prisoners like Herbert Colanggo who's currently serving a 12-year sentence for a series of robbery that he headed in Metro Manila more than 5 years ago.
Recently, TV Patrol reported about the raid of the New Bilibid Prison by DOJ and NBI wherein they discovered inside a music studio, a bath tub, a king-sized bed, flat-screen TV, a Wi-fi connection, Rolex watches, guns, over a million cash and many more. This Herbert Colanggo owns that music studio and those expensive watches.
While it's not wrong to realize one prisoner's dream of becoming a singer or to help him transform into a better person by honing his talents and abilities, it's a big question why he was allowed to have his own music studio, record songs there, even shoot music video inside and hold a weekly variety show or concert where many people from outside can watch. VIP indeed = Very Important Prisoner!
Watch his music video of 'Pa'no 'Yon', his debut single, which was reportedly shot inside Bilibid and currently has more than a quarter of a million views:
Released by Ivory Music in February 13 2014, Herbert Colanggo's album 'Kinabukasan' surprisingly achieved gold and then platinum status in just 1 month, as certified by the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (PARI) on March 18, 2014.
With these album achievements, Herbert was among the awardees during ASAP 8th 24k Gold and 10th Platinum Circle Awards 2014 held earlier this month.
Amazingly, he's one of only 8 artists who achieved platinum mark this 2014 along with Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo (TomDen), Noel Cabangon, Daniel Padilla, Gloc-9, Julie Anne San Jose and Xian Lim.
Colanggo is also the one who shockingly tied with Richard Yap as Best New Male Recording Artist at the 6th PMPC Star Awards for Music last September, winning over Abra, Michael Pangilinan, James Wright, Renzo Vergara, Bassilyo and Alden Richards. - Mykiru.ph
