Interviewed by 'The Buzz' hosts Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda and Toni Gonzaga, Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell reacted to the controversies that hound the pageant following her win, such as the issue that she just won out of home court advantage, as well as that issue about Miss Brazil Leticia Silva having no proper interpreter. The Cebuana beauty doesn't believe she won the crown out of home court advantage: "Sometimes you can't change the mind of people that think that way, I just have to keep quiet on that. But for me, you know, this is the home of Miss Earth, Philippines. It's a Filipino pageant, it started here. And for all of its 14 years, it's only been held once outside. And we've only won once, before me, which was Karla Henry in 2008. So for me, it's not really a home court advantage, because at the end of the day, it really depends on how much you work for it, and if it's meant for you."

Boy Abunda then asked her about the candidate she thinks was her strongest competitor in the pageant, as well as about what happened to Miss Brazil during the Question and Answer Portion.

Boy: "Who do you think was your strongest competitor for the crown?"

Jamie: "See, that's the thing, because there were so many that I can't really pick. Because like what I said, they've all trained for this. A lot of us trained for this."

Boy: "Somebody was talking about Miss Brazil, and then she got an interpreter, what happened? I mean, do you remember?"

Jamie: "Actually I don't really remember, because I'm the type of person, while people are doing their Q&A, I'm just staying focused, I'm just thinking of myself. Because I don't really, for me, it's good to be competitive, but not overly competitive that you also have to watch the people you're competing with. You just need to enjoy on stage, and have fun."

Toni: "What do you think is your advantage?"

Jamie: "People always ask me that, but honestly, I don't really know what it is. 'Coz all I just do is just enjoy on stage, and I'm just, you know, just enjoying the whole ride and the whole journey. "

Notice that Jamie couldn't give specific answers to the questions. She loved saying she doesn't know.

I am not convinced that Jamie can't remember what happened to Miss Brazil. Maybe, she was already briefed not to talk about it.

Jamie, here's what happened: Miss Brazil was the first to take her turn during that night's Q&A, and she only had Miss Switzerland as her interpreter.

The telecast on ABS-CBN Sunday morning already cut off that part where it took so long before Miss Brazil's answer was translated into English by Miss Switzerland, who even had to apologize for being not so good in English.

Many believe that Miss Brazil could have entered the Top 4 if her answer was interpreted correctly or if she was given the proper interpreter, as in the case of Brazilian candidates Priscilla Meirelles and Larissa Ramos who even went on to win the crown in 2004 and 2009 respectively.

Speaking of Meirelles, now wife to actor John Estrada. Allegedly, it was she who was supposed to serve as the interpreter for Portuguese-speaking candidates, but sadly, she came so late and failed to catch Miss Brazil's turn during the Q&A. - Mykiru.ph
