Is it true that Bb. Pilipinas head Stella Marquez Araneta shouted on Mary Jean Lastimosa at the the Miss Universe 2014 backstage when the latter asked if she could wear the pink Leo Almodal gown for the evening gown competition?
Mary Jean Lastimosa brought honor to the Philippines when she made it to the Top 10 of Miss Universe 2014. And the Filipino people in general are proud of what she has reached in the pageant, and even prouder if only she made it as well to the Top 5 just like the past 4 Misses Philippines.
2 days have passed, it's still one hot issue what could have gone wrong why she stopped in the Top 10 after competing in her evening gown.
The answer is of course...that awful evening gown that she wore. (HO/Miss Universe Organization L.P., LLLP)
Said evening gown was designed by Colombian fashion designer Alfredo Bazzura Barraza, the same one she wore at the prelims.
Let's admit it, even if Mary Jean Lastimosa had superb catwalk skills and she presented herself excellently so well, she didn't look her best and display her elegance in that gown, a reason why the candidates from Jamaica, Colombia, USA, Ukraine and the Netherlands scored higher than her, preventing her from a chance to win the Miss Universe 2014 title.
If only she wore these red Leo Almodal gowns, MJ could have joined the Top 5 (3 of them were in red gown):
Or even the reported pink gown, also by Almodal, which she wore during the final rehearsals:
According to rumors, MJ really wanted to wear that pink gown during the Evening Gown competition, but Madame Stella Araneta allegedly shouted at MJ and insisted she should wear the Barraza white gown.
The ending: MJ lost, and the Colombian candidate won!
Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc, headed by Stella Marquez Araneta who is not even a Filipino, has to learn a lesson from the Philippines' lowest placement in Miss Universe since the 2010s. (Read: Mary Jean Lastimosa Ms U Gown, Costume: Madame Stella Araneta makes controversial statement)
They should make a big change this year, especially now that they're searching once again for the the next Filipina to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe 2015 or 2016.
Everyone DEMANDS that our next Miss Universe candidate will use Filipino-designed gown, and no longer a Barraza-designed gown.
Mary Jean Lastimos's Top 10 finish was actually what I had predicted, since I had a feeling she won't place in the Top 5 because of that unimpressive gown.
