Pia Wurtzbach won against Janicel Lubina as Miss Universe Philippines 2015, the title she' been dreaming of, during Sunday's Binibining Pilipinas 2015 Coronation Night. She will soon wear the "PHILIPPINES" sash at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. Did Pia deserve to win?
25-year-old Fil-German beauty Pia Wurtzbach, a former actress and Star Magic talent (as Pia Romero), won the Miss Universe Philippines 2015 crown against 33 candidates, including the other heavy faves Janicel Lubina, Christi McGarry and WinWyn Marquez.
Lubina and McGarry also won Bb Pilipinas titles, International and Intercontinental respectively, but Wynwyn failed to win one, and the double "win" in her name apparently didn't help her out.
I think Pia is a deserving winner. (She was in fact my predicted Miss Universe Philippines 2015 winner)
I must admit though that Janicel did better than her during the Swimsuit and Evening Gown rounds last night, but Pia is a total package, and has this global appeal which could help her stand out at the Miss Universe pageant. She can excel in all departments: swimsuit, evening and the Q&A round. Janicel evidently failed to impress in the Q and A last night.

Just like last year's Mary Jean Lastimosa, Pia Wurtzbach also won in Bb Pilipinas after 3 tries. Pia was 1st Runner Up in 2013, a Top 15 semi-finalist in 2014 and finally the Miss Universe Philippines crown winner this 2015. (MJ actually achieved the very same fate: a runner-up first in 2011, then semi-finalist in 2012 and finally the winner in 2014.)
MJ and Pia have taught everyone a lesson: that we should persevere and never give up in chasing for our dreams, no matter how many times we fail. In her Instagram account hours after she won, Pia borrowed Anne Curtis' famous line that dreams indeed do come true.
Now, the big question is: Will Pia Wurtzbach finally win the 3rd Miss Universe crown for the Philippines? It's over 40 years already since the last time we won the crown, and Pia is for sure feeling the pressure already from crown-hungry Filipino pageant fans. It's the same pressure given to MJ Lastimosa, who placed only in the Top 10 at Miss Universe 2014, ending the Philippines' 4-year streak in the Top 5.
