Wenn Deramas, the director of numerous blockbuster films in the Philippines, has died of cardiac arrest this morning of February 29, according to the flash reports by major TV networks. He was only 49 years old.
And it's even more heartbreaking to know that he passed away just 3 hours after his sister died also of heart attack.
Direk Wenn's last Facebook post seemed like a premoninition. On the morning of February 28, he mentioned in his FB post about his mother's death in 2009, while at the same time greeting his manager, June Rufino, a happy birthday.
A respected film and television director, Direk Wenn recently broke his own record at the Philippine box-office, when his MMFF 2015 entry 'Beauty and the Bestie' became the highest-grossing Pinoy film ever. He has also been named "Most Popular Film Director" again by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, awarding of which is yet to happen this April.
On TV, he last directed 'Wansapanataym: Susi ni Sisay'.
The next Metro Manila Film Festival, from 2016 and beyond, will never be the same without Direk Wenn. He has been part of the festival and ruled its box office for 8 years. - Mykiru.ph
